Approximately 1/3 of Farmington households are still without power. PSNH is currently working to restore power to these homes. If you are still without power and are in need of a shelter, one has been set up at the Rochester Middle School at 47 Brock St, Rochester, NH.
Our department and the Fire Department are working hard to make sure everyone is safe, but we’d ask neighbors to keep an eye out for one another. If you have an elderly neighbor please check on them to make sure they are ok. Also if you know your neighbors are out of town for the holidays keep an eye on their house and call us if you see any suspicious activity.
Finally, a few reminders to stay safe as you try to stay warm…
- Stay away from downed lines. Deadly electricity can be transmitted by the ground or a tree branch to you even if you’re not touching the wire.
- Don’t run your generator inside your home and keep them away from windows and other areas where the exhaust could seep into the house. The exhaust fumes can be deadly.
- Don’t plug your generator directly into your wall outlets or wire it directly into your breaker box unless you have the proper transfer switch. The power from your generator can feed back into the power lines and injury or kill line workers.
- Do not bring BBQ grills inside to heat your home. The build up of carbon monoxide can be deadly. You can’t smell or see carbon monoxide.
Stay warm and safe and enjoy the rest of your holiday weekend!
